DASH High School Track 2013 Shoreland Lutheran Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The DASH high school team was found Monday way down south at Westosha Central High School competing in a meet run by Shoreland Lutheran. We got a taste of this talented team last week. Now it was time for us to see what they could do for an encore. The weather was perfect, and the facilities top notch. There would be nothing to stop the good results from coming in.

Amelie Kemmann was the top seed in the 100 meter race and she did not disappoint, running to a DASH record 13.02 to get the DASH day started off right. Stefanie Klaves raced to a 6th place finish, edging Renee Walters who ran in the next heat. It was encouraging to see Stefanie and Renee running so fast. Hudson Nyhart burst out of the starting blocks in his 100 meter race spurring him to his best time of the year. The boys and girls all ran together in the 1600, which gave Andrea Beck some company as she stayed far ahead of all the other girls to notch another DASH victory. We ran Makayla Gergeni, Zipporah Caspers, Andrea Coulter, and Stefanie Klaves in the 4×200 relay. They put up a great time and ended up winning after another team missed a handoff. Things were going our way. Hudson Nyhart powered his way to a 2nd place finish in the 400 meters with a personal best 58.59. Smashing the minute barrier is a goal achieved for Hudson. Zeb Caspers ran to a 6th place finish in his first DASH race of the season. With little rest, Andrea Beck was back for the 800 meters. She bided her time running in second until the last 100 meters where she took off for another victory. Amelie Kemmann led a strong DASH contingent in the 200. In the first heat, Amelie got a step ahead on the turn and never let up as she lowered her own DASH record. In the next heat four DASH girls toed the line in a race-off. They all stayed very close at the half-way point, but then Stefanie Klaves and Makayla Gergeni put the burners on and raced head-to-head all the way to the finish with Makayla just edging out Stefanie, lowering her time from last meet by over two seconds. Renee Walters and Andrea Coulter, along with Zipporah Caspers in the next heat, all broke 35 seconds in good races. Hudson Nyhart won his heat in the 200 and placed 4th overall with some inspired racing. The girls 4×400 team finished the racing day again. Renee Walters got the team off to a good start, and then Amelie Kemmann put the team into a lead that Makayla Gergeni and Andrea Beck would not relinquish, lowering their DASH record time from last week by six seconds. It was nice way to end the day of racing!

In the field events, Hudson Nyhart finally hit the sand after spending 15’6″ in the air, good for 2nd place. Andrea Beck was impressive again in the discus, this time with a third place throw of over 69 feet. The girls had to fit their jumps in between running events, but the results were good. Andrea Coulter, Zipporah Caspers, and Renee Walters all had their best jumps of the year. Makayla Gergeni put in a good 11’11.5″ jump, while Stefanie Klaves’ 12-06.5″ jump was good for 6th place. Amelie Kemmann’s jump of 14’01.5″ broke a long-standing DASH record, and left her in a tie for first place. That made it four DASH records in one day for Amelie, and combined with all the other great results was just enough for the girls to capture second place in the team standings, one point ahead of third.

It was another memorable performance by the DASH athletes. This team keeps the excitement going from start to finish. Thanks to the many DASH fans who made the trek to Kenosha. They outnumbered the athletes and really made their presence felt. Special mention goes out to great DASH fans George and Sarah Klapak, who were looking especially dashing in their designer DASH yellow apparel. Thanks also to legendary DASH photographer Kam Caspers who was back taking pictures. She has plenty of great photos of the DASH athletes and lots and lots of the DASH fans for everyone to enjoy. With this meet, the DASH Flickr photo site now has over 10,000 photos! With a meet this Thursday, it will not be long until we get to do it all again. Until then,

Take care,
Jim Caspers
