DASH Middle School Track 2013 MQS Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The DASH middle school track and field team participated in the big Mary Queen of Saints meet last Saturday. For various reasons, only two-thirds of the team was able to compete making it a struggle to get our events filled. We even ended up cancelling two relays. But when it was over, we took home a fat folder full of ribbons rewarding us for all the hard work we put in.

Field events were first. In her last attempt, Gulla Kemmann earned the team’s first ribbon with a shot put throw of over 24 feet for a third place finish. Joe Hughes also looked strong trying shot put for the first time. In the long jump, Hannah Schein, Faith Caspers, and Zipporah Caspers were all over 11 feet for the girls. Foster Todd jumped to an impressive 5th place finish with Wesley Evans also jumping to a top-10 finish for the boys

Gulla Kemmann posted the fastest 100 meter time of the day which earned her a place in the finals. Andrea Guidone also made it to the finals just as she did last year. Grace Dupar placed 9th overall, missing the final hear by just two-hundreths of a second. Wesley Evans tied for 8th place in his preliminary 100 meter heat. He actually missed out on the final heat because of a coin flip. In the 1600 meter races, Faith Caspers ran to a third place finish while posting the lowest DASH time of the day. Hannah Schein broke 7 minutes for the first time with a good last lap. For the boys, Leif Kostrzewa also broke 7 minutes for the first time. He is really looking good. DASH star Christian LeSac was too strong for the field, winning his 1600 meter race by 15 seconds! The 5th grade boys relay team posted the best result of the day. Foster Todd, Daniel Caspers, Joshua LeSac, and Wesley Evans carried the baton through four laps to post a nice 3rd place finish. The girls 8th grade team of Andrea Guidone, Lucretia Nyhart, Zipporah Caspers, and Hannah Schein put up a nice time of 5:13 coasting to 5th place, while the 8th grade boys team of Joe Hughes, Joshua Anumolu, Alex Navin, and Christian LeSac posted a time of 4:40 to take home the 4th place ribbons. We had one of our best ever all-school relay teams. Faith Caspers, John Klaves, Grace Dupar, and Joe Hughes ran a lap in just 1:01 to place 7th. In the 400 meters, Wesley Evans and Joshua Anumolu ran hard posting nice top-5 finishes. The team had a lot of success in the 200 meter races. Stephanie Chu arrived at the meet just in time to race in her heat. She got a good lead in the turn and held it to the finish to win her heat in one of the most exciting races of the day. Grace Dupar and Gulla Kemmann were back cracking the top-10 in the 7th grade races, and Andrea Guidone had the lowest time and her best showing of the day finishing 4th overall in the 8th grade race. John Klaves looked great placing 2nd place in his heat. The 800 meters was next, and our 6th grade distance duo of Faith Caspers and Abigail Larkin were back running laps and finishing top-10. Lucretia Nyhart proved again that the longer the better for her as she raced to a 3rd place finish with the best time among the girls. Hannah Schein and Zipporah Caspers also ran to top-10 finishes. Joshua Anumolu got around the pack early and powered his way to a 3rd place finish. Christian LeSac settled for a 3rd place finish with a great time of 2:29 in a tough 8th grade race, with Joe Hughes not far behind in 8th. Foster Todd, Elijah Anumolu, Andre Coulter, and Leif Kostrzewa got our 4×100 meter relays started, racing to a 5th place finish. Stepahnie Chu, Abby Chu, Kayla Walters, and Abigail Larkin looked fast while placing 2nd in their 6th grade heat. Our 7th grade girls team of Grace Dupar, Lucretia Nyhart, Faith Caspers, and Gulla Kemmann posted a great time of 1:05 to end the day of racing.

We were not at full strength, but we were still good enough to post some good results. Now it is time to practice hard and get ready for our last two meets. Thanks to the parents for making sure the athletes were there for their events. Thanks to Eileen Dupar and Kenli Couppee for being our timing volunteers. Thanks to the camera lady for getting the usual good photos. And thanks to all the great DASH fans who cheered the athletes on. It won’t be long until we get to do it again.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
