DASH Middle School Track 2013 Brookfield Academy Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The middle school team was out in full force last Friday at Brookfield Academy. It was very cold, but we stayed just warm enough to run fast, have fun, and post some great results.

In the hurdles, Grace Zinkgraf put up a good time again, while Grace Dupar hurdled to our first victory of the day. Glenn Kaboskey arrived just in time for his race, and showed off some great form to win the 8th grade hurdles. It may have been our best hurdling day ever and it got the day off to an exciting start. Olivia Zyzo and Andrea Guidone showed off their speed in running to 3rd place finishes in the 100 meters. Kayla Walters also powered her way to a good time. Gulla Kemmann looked fast, but unfortunately received no official time. Foster Todd and John Klaves had their best races of the day in the 100 meters, and Christian LeSac, in a rare chance to show off his paces in a short race, got a nice 4th place finish. In the 800 meters girls races, Zipporah Caspers posted the best girls time of the year to win her race. Hannah Schein and Faith Caspers were just a few seconds behind in posting 3rd place finishes.  Simran Khunger, in her first DASH race, moved up late and finished with an impressive time of 3:05. She will be one to watch. For the boys 800, Leif Kostrzewa led Daniel Caspers and Joshua LeSac to the finish in the first race. At the front of the pack was Joshua Anumolu. Joshua got a big lead early and it only got bigger as he ran to an impressive DASH victory. He is exceeding all expectations now. Briton Kostrzewa was back running after a recent injury and looked good, while Joe Hughes and Samuel Zinkgraf ran hard as usual and posted good times as well. In the 200 meters, our exciting 5th graders, Stephanie Chu and Sophia Zyzo got the good results started. Abby Chu, Grace Zinkgraf, Grace Dupar, Gulla Kemmannv, and Andrea Guidone followed them up with their own impressive results in one the teams best showings ever in this event. Wesley Evans sped to a 3rd place finish for the boys. In a rare 200 meter attempt, distance runner Glenn Kaboskey looked fast and posted a good time. In the 400 meters, Olivia Zyzo paced herself to a 6th place finish. Simran Khunger followed that up with her own 6th place finish, while Toria Schein looked good in her best race of the day. Hannah Schein ran to a nice 2nd place finish in the 8th grade race. Wesley Evans showed off his impressive finishing speed, winning his 400 heat and placing 2nd overall. Joe Hughes matched Wesley, giving us another great 2nd place finish in the 8th grade race. Joshua Anumolu posted yet another 1st place finish among the 6th graders to cap off a good day for us in the 400. Our 6th grade 4×100 relay team was our best. John Klaves, Abby Chu, Olivia Zyzo, and Joshua Anumolu ran to a 4th place finish among the 9 teams. The mile was next. In the girls race, Faith Caspers and Zipporah Caspers ran to victories in their age groups, with Abigail Larkin finishing not far behind to place 4th. Julianna Caspers got some attention as she came in in under 8 minutes, earning a 3rd place among the 5th graders. Christian LeSac led from start to finish again in the boys race as he continues to be a star. Briton Kostrzewa and Glenn Kaboskey both posted good times as well.

In the long jump, John Klaves and Foster Todd jumped over 11 feet to place well among the 6th graders. Christian LeSac jumped to a 4th place 8th grade finish, while Glenn Kaboskey impressed with a personal best 13’11” to place 2nd overall. Nice! Simran Khunger leaped 10’11” in her first try at long jump, while Faith Caspers placed 2nd with a leap of over 11 feet. Gulla Kemmann gave us her usual great throws in the shot put. Joe Hughes, Samuel Zinkgraf, and Christopher Fossell showed off their strength for the boys with some nice results on their throws.

It was nice to see us field such a big team. It kept things busy, but it also helped keep the good results coming in. Thanks go out to Eileen Dupar for helping with the timing, and Jodi LeSac for helping in the long jump pit. Thanks to Mary Beck for relieving timers with frozen hands near the end of the meet The meet organizers were asking for volunteers and these DASH moms answered the call. It makes our team look good and is much appreciated. Thanks to Andrea Beck for taking the time to take the pictures as my wife had to stay home because of sickness and the weather. Zipporah Caspers also helped out with the pictures when she wasn’t running herself. The photos turned out great. Hopefully the girls made up for lost socializing time afterwards at Marty’s Pizza. I know I did. We have one meet left before we close the books on the season. It is time to prepare ourselves properly and finish well.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
