DASH High School Track 2013 WI School for the Deaf Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The DASH High School Track Team completed a memorable season last Monday at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf. This is our “conference meet” where we have finished our season every year, We have been very competitive in past years, but have been never been able to come out on top in the team scoring. This year we changed that as our girls scored enough points to be declared the winners! We went out on top.

In field events, Andrea Beck threw the discus far enough for a 2nd place finish. Renee Walters had a nice shot put throw good for third. Zebulon Caspers got the boys their first point with his shot put throw. Stefanie Klaves led a 2-3-4 girls long jump finish, landing her jump a little farther than Andrea Coulter and Makayla Gergeni. Hudson Nyhart had the jump of the day, 17 feet, to give us our first win of the day.

Stefanie Klaves, Renee Walters, and Andrea Coulter earned the first, second, and third place points, all running to season best times in the 100 meter dash to get our running day started. Hudson Nyhart put on his usuual late surge to pull ahead just before the finish to win a very close and exciting race. In the 1600, Jacob Dickman had to battle to the end, and post a season best time of 5:05, to post another DASH victory. Andrea Beck had a much easier time in her race as she paced herself to victory in 6:03. Our relay team of Andrea Coulter, Renee Walters, Makayla Gergeni, and Stefanie Klaves were the only girls entry in the 4×200. They ran well and gave the team some more needed points. In the 400 meters, Amelie Kemmann ran to DASH record, but was edged out by a Trinity girl for 2nd. Hudson Nyhart ran to a season-best time to capture second place as well. In the 800, Jacob Dickman and Zebulon Caspers ran with the lead pack through a fast first lap. Jacob finished in 2:24 which was good for third in this fast race. Zeb’s time of 2:30 was good for 5th. Andrea Beck ran solo again in her 800 giving the girls another victory. In the 200, Amelie Kemmann got ahead of that same fast Trinity girl she raced in the 400, and was very happy with her first place finish. Stefanie Klaves had a season-best 31.84 to take third, with Makayla Gergeni right behind in 4th. With little rest, Hudson capped off his big day by earning a 2nd place finish in his 200 meter race. That gave him two first place and two second place finishes for the day. A very nice way to end a season! Amelie Kemmann hurt her ankle at the finish of her 200 win, so we got to see Stefanie Klaves for the first time on the girls 4×400 relay team. Stefanie got the girls off to a great start. Renee Walters then ran a little extra by staying in lane 2 the whole way. Makayla Gergeni and Andrea Beck had some nice splits to finish off the day with another win.

We had so many good races, posted so many personal bests, and set so many team records, it is hard to believe this team fielded only nine athletes in all. The photos were able to capture some of the fun and memories. They were a picturesque group. Thanks to the picture lady once again. Thanks to all the parents who got the athletes to the meets and then cheered them on. Thanks to all those schools who invited our homeschool team to their meets. Not all our meets are close, but this was probably the best meet schedule we have ever had. It won’t be long until the track fun gets carried over to cross country season. I hope to see you there.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
