DASH High School Track 2014 Kettle Moraine Lutheran Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The high school team got the busy week of racing started yesterday at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. It was another cold day, with rain coming and going throughout the meet. This is one of our smaller meet and it went by fast, but not fast enough to keep us from posting some nice results.

The girl shot put team were the first to compete, and they had to do it in some rain. Despite the shot put having to be cleaned off after every throw, the girls threw very well. Renee Walters threw it a few inches farther than Amelie Kemmann to lead the team with Anna Seidl also throwing well. It was another tough long jumping day, but Nicholas Funk, Danny Wickman, and Tommy Ebert took turns getting sandy. Nicholas topped out at 14’6″ to lead the team. Andrea Beck and Zipporah Caspers threw the discus. Andrea threw it over 60 feet and Zipporah threw to a personal best.

The rain had let up some when the running started. Renee Walters ran to a season best in her heat of the 100 meters, and Amelie Kemmann stayed ahead of the pack in a close race to post a DASH victory. Tommy Ebert continues to improve and ran very well in the first heat of the 100. Danny Wickman followed it up by running faster than he ever has in the event. Nicholas Funk proved he belonged in the final heat by posting a smoking 12.61 time. Nicholas was the top freshman and 6th overall. Jacob Dickman led from start to finish in the 1600, giving the DASH team another victory. Joe Hughes effort was good for 6th place. Johannah Lee arrived at the meet in time run the 400. She raced to a fast 1:14 as she continues to improve. Tommy Ebert won his heat of the 400 by staying ahead of Samuel Lee. Both Tommy and Samuel lowered their personal bests by several seconds. Very nice! The rain was back for the 800, and Andrea Beck had trouble getting her legs warmed up and had to settle for 2nd place. Zipporah Caspers looked good as she raced to a 3rd place finish, but Hannah Schein looked a little cold. Anna Seidl showed some good kick at the end to finish strong. It was nice having all four girls in the same race. Amelie Kemmann was also having trouble keeping her legs race ready, so she declined to run the 200. Johannah Lee, Tommy Ebert, and Samuel Lee all did run, but the effects of having run the 400 not long before was reflected in their times. Zebulon Caspers, Joe Hughes, and Danny Wickman all raced in the same 200 heat. Zeb looked strong in posting a season best. Joe Hughes was able to hold off a charging Danny Wickman at the end in a good battle. Nicholas Funk ran in the last heat and posted the best freshman time of the meet once again.

In the relays, the boys 4×200 team of Danny Wickman, Zebulon Caspers, Joe Hughes, and Nicholas Funk was eyeing breaking the DASH record. By my watch they had it, but the official time had them missing by .2 seconds. The girls 4×200 team of Renee Walters, Andrea Beck, Anna Seidl, and Amelie Kemmann raced to a second place finish. The girls got to run a 4×100 relay, and the team of Renee Walters, Anna Seidl, Zipporah Caspers, and Hannah Schein held off a Slinger team and placed third. The girls 4×400 of Renee Walters, Hannah Schein, Johannah Lee, and Zipporah Caspers team finished the cold day of racing with a good effort.

With this the first of back to back racing days, the amount of running the athletes did was scaled back. Add in the cold, wet weather and this was not an easy day to race. Nonetheless I thought we did very well. This team is letting me move people into different events and still be competitive. We will really be tested today with a tough relay meet on the schedule. Let’s hope everyone is healthy and ready to run their best.

Thanks to all the parents who, despite busy schedules, got the athletes to the meet. Thanks to Ed Beck who helped with the coaching. Thanks to Faith Caspers who took the majority of the photos. And thanks to Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. They have always been very accommodating to the homeschool teams in the area. I hope to see the high school families again later today.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
