DASH Middle School Track 2014 Milwaukee Invitational Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The DASH middle school track and field team completed their season Saturday at Quad Park in Milwaukee, competing in the annual Milwaukee Invitational. The weather was absolutely perfect for our last day of racing, and at the end of the day the box of medals and ribbons taken home was representative of the excitement given to the DASH fans throughout.

We arrived at 8:30 to field events. Stefanie Chu long jumped over 10 feet for the second week in a row to earn 4th place. Faith Caspers had a personal best 11’9″ jump to place 5th, and Grace Zinkgraf and Kayla Walters also jumped past 11 feet. Daniel Caspers earned his first long jump ribbon, and Wes Evans’ jump was good for 6th place. Daniel Hubert pushed his shot farther than any other 7th grader, and Joshua Anumolu gave us two in the top-5. Lizzy Johnston earned the 4th place ribbon with her strong throw. Isaac Johnson got to throw the softball this meet and his 93 foot throw placed 5th overall in the 6th grade division. Elijah Johnson also threw well and placed 6th. Caleb Alles’ throw was measured at 109 feet. No 5th grader could match that, giving the DASH team another victory. Our three exciting young discus throwers all had personal bests. Andre Coulter went past 44 feet with his throw to earn 2nd. Elijah Anumolu got his discus past the 39 foot mark to place 3rd, and Joshua Lipski gave us three in the top-6 with his throw of 37’7″. The team really excelled at the field events in this meet.

The 1600 was the first race of the day. Julianna Caspers got her time down to 6:40 as she continues to amaze. She earned the 2nd place medal, missing first by a second. Angela Walters also keeps getting faster. 7:26 is her new standard which was good for 4th. Grace Caspers finished in 6th place. Faith Caspers had her best time of the year to place 3rd. Joshua LeSac and Daniel Caspers fought hard for 8th and 9th place in a 5th grade race where everyone finished in under 7 minutes. Joshua Anumolu ran his first 1600 in 6:01 and earned the 3rd place medal. There was a problem with the timing for the 5th grade girls 100. When it was cleared up, Stephanie Chu had taken 2nd with a time of 14.99. Running in the same 100 heat, Grace Zinkgraf edged Kayla Walters to finish 4th overall. Caleb Alles and Zachary Werner were our top boy 100 meter runners. In the all-school relay, the co-ed team of Stephanie Chu, Elijah Johnson, Grace Zinkgraf, and Joshua Anumolu placed 4th. Our 5th grade girls 4×400 team of Abbey Novak, Grace Caspers, Angela Walters, and Julianna Caspers ran unopposed to win the 1st place medals. Our 7th grade team of Lizzy Johnston, Kayla Walters, Abby Chu, and Faith Caspers was edged out in a close race and finished 2nd. The 5th grade boys team of Caleb Alles, Daniel Caspers, Isaac Johnson, and Joshua LeSac came in 3rd. The last 4×400 race had the DASH fans off their seats. Running in a heat of six 7th and 8th grade teams, John Klaves, Joshua Anumolu, and Wes Evans got the team in 3rd place before handing the baton to Daniel Hubert. In the last 300 meters, Daniel put on a surge that left everyone behind him. Victory was ours. Julianna Caspers was back on the track to to run the 800. Despite already running 5 laps earlier in the day, she was able to set a personal record of 3:18, edging Abbey Novak by a stride. Abbey also ran to a personal record. Sarah Lindberg set the early pace for Julianna and Abbey showing us her potential. She finished 6th among the 6th graders. Faith Caspers followed with a 4th place finish. Joshua LeSac worked hard in his 800 and earned the 5th place ribbon. Zachary Werner is really competing well right now, and his effort was good for 7th. DASH star Joshua Anumolu placed 2nd overall, well ahead of 3rd in the 7th grade race. John Klaves followed, coming in 5th. Stephanie Chu got us all excited with her convincing victory in the 200. Kayla Walters pushed herself to a nice 4th place finish. The boys struggled in the 200 with the exception of Daniel Hubert. His 27.52 captured the 2nd place medal. In a strong field for the 400, Abbey Novak’s personal best 1:25 placed 7th. Abby Chu showed some great kick at the end of her lap. Her personal best 1:16 time was good for 6th. For the boys, Wes Evans earned the 7th place ribbon, and John Klaves took 8th. Daniel Hubert raced to another 2nd place finish with his fast 1:01 time.

It was another strong showing for the middle schoolers, and a nice way to cap off another successful season. At the end of the season, we had our veterans running like stars, and our newcomers were all getting their times down. We will have a lot of medals and ribbons to hand out at the end-of-year party for this team.

Thanks to the Chu and LeSac families for bringing the tents. They were needed on the beautiful, sunny day. Thanks to Ed Beck for helping with the coaching. Thanks to all the photographers. We had three cameras going throughout the meet which gave us a lot of great photos, and some extra work for me to piece them all together in the Flickr album. Samuel Zinkgraf, Renee Walters, Stefanie Klaves, Andrea Beck, Mrs. Beck, Grace and Julianna Caspers, and I made this a group effort. They turned out very good. Thanks to all the DASH fans who cheered the team on throughout the season. Now it is time to take a break from track and the Blog, and start thinking of what a great cross country season we can have. I hope to see you there.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
