DASH Middle School Track 2015 MQS Meet Report

Hello DASH families,

The DASH middle school track team capped off a big week of racing last Saturday at Nathan Hale High School. It was the day for the annual Mary Queen of Saints Phoenix Invite. The sun was out and it was very warm, but overall it was a great day to race and compete against some of our toughest opponents of the season.

Field events started at 8:30. Bryant Farrell and Caleb Alles both threw the softball over 104 feet to finish 6th and 7th. Isaac Johnson, Elijah Anumolu, and Joshua Lipski also showed off their arms with throws over 70 feet. In the shot put, Joshua Anumolu threw it over 25 feet, and Elijah Johnson and Peter Chan placed well in the 7th grade division. Alexa Dawson threw the softball over 84 feet to place 4th. Then in the long jump, Alexa leaped 11’05” to place third. Madelyn Zielinski jumped over 9 feet which was the farthest of all the 5th grade girls. Grace Zinkgraf took 5th overall with her 12’06” leap and now is listed 4th on the DASH all-time list. Salim Lubbad and Jeffery Breiling jumped past 10 feet, and Ethan Blischke went over 11, but Noah Howard reached 12 feet to get the 2nd place ribbon. Elijah Johnson went past 12 feet, and ‘Jumpin’ John Klaves broke an 8-year old DASH record with an amazing 14’11” jump.

In the 100 meters, Emily Zielinski raced to a 3rd place finish and made the final where she moved up to 2nd. Abbey Novak and Madelyn Zielinski also posted good times. Alexa Dawson made the 6th grade 100 final. She was pushed along by Rebecca Bruton who also ran well in that heat. Grace Zinkgraf’s 15.10 was our girls’ best time of the day, and Mia Wickman also broke 16 seconds. For the 5th grade boys, Salim Lubbad proved the fastest, with Tyler Howard and Micah Chan also posting nice times. Timmy Ebert finished in the top-20, and John Klaves just missed the 8th grade finals with his 14.09 time. In the 1600, Julianna Caspers moved up to finish 2nd place with another 6:43 time. Angela Walters was a few spots behind in 5th. Katrina Lipski was the 6th fastest of the 8th graders. Noah Howard got his chance to run the 1600. His fast 6:20 time earned him another 2nd place ribbon. Jeffery Breiling came in right behind with a 6:33 time. Joshua LeSac broke into the 6:30’s for the first time to take 2nd in the 6th grade race. In the 400, Abbey Novak’s 1:23 gave her 6th place. Stephanie Chu’s 1:23 earned her 10th. Emma Taylor impressed us when she broke 1:20, and our 8th grade duo of Kayla Walters and Abby Chu both posted fast 1:15 times. Ethan Blischke finished strong to take 4th overall. Alexander Taylor came in a couple seconds later to take 7th. John Klaves ran a 1:05 lap to take 2nd in the 8th grade division. Joshua Anumolu’s 1:06 gave us two in the top-5. In the 200, Emily Zielinski easily won her heat and placed 4th. 3rd graders Madelyn Zielinski and Savanna Bruton both posted almost identical times and broke 40 seconds. Our 6th grade threesome of Alexa Dawson, Stephanie Chu, and Rebecca Bruton all ran fast 34’s. Grace Zinkgraf finished in 33 seconds, and Kayla Walters made it to the finish in just 32. Salim Lubbad, Alexander Tayler, and Nathanael Chu led the 5th grade boys 200 runners, with Salim making the top-10. Timmy Ebert finished in the top-20 among the 6th graders. In the 800, Julianna Caspers was found sprinting another two laps to place 3rd. Grace Caspers 3:54 time placed 9th. Faith Caspers and Katrina Lipski had top-9 finishes as well. Ethan Blischke and Jeffrey Breiling raced well again, this time in the 800 with Ethan earning the 4th place ribbon and breaking 3 minutes. Thomas Breiling raced to an 8th place finish, and Joshua Anumolu held off John Klaves by .34 seconds as they both clocked in at 2:40. We had enough athletes left at the end of the day to field a record six 4×100 teams. The young team of Savanna Bruton, Mary LeSac, Angela Walters, and Madelyn Zielinski raced to a 1:15 time. Stephanie Chu, Emily Zielinski, Rebecca Bruton, and Alexa Dawson did their lap in 1:04 to finish 2nd. Naomi Zhou, Sierra Dawson, Annika Lipski, and Emma Taylor finished 5th. Our 8th grade team of Mia Wickman, Kayla Walters, Abby Chu, and Grace Zinkgraf posted the fastest DASH time with a 1:03. The 5th grade boys team of Salim Lubbad, Ethan Blischke, Caleb Alles, and Alexander Taylor raced to the 3rd place ribbons. The team of Nathanael Chu, Luke Smrecek, Micah Chan, and Joshua Lipski posted a nice 1:14 time. Our big team had completed an amazing amount of events. It was time for the coach to collect our awards, get out of the sun, eat some pizza, and start thinking about next week’s meets.

Thanks to the LeSac’s and Chu’s for bringing their tents that gave us some shade. Thanks to Judy Chan and Jodi LeSac for being our volunteer timers. Special thanks to Joe LeSac for getting the water jug refilled. Thanks to Ed Beck for helping me get the athletes ready to compete and break long jump records. Thanks to all the DASH fans who made it through the long day. We got photos! I have never spent as much time going through them as I did for this meet. Thanks to the camera lady and Lucretia Nyhart for taking them. Now we have a couple much smaller meets to prepare for on the schedule. After three meets in three days, that sounds good to me. I hope to see you there.

Take care,
Jim Caspers
